Apple's iPhone Duo Is Here — Fone4U Asks What the Galaxy S27 Ultra Needs to Do to Keep Up
Ballina, Sligo & Bray — Sep 2026 — With Apple's first foldable iPhone now official, phone retailer Fone4U is weighing in on what Samsung's next flagship, the rumored Galaxy S27 Ultra, needs to deliver to stay the clear choice for Android shoppers heading into 2027.
Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo on September 9, launching Apple's first-ever foldable smartphone, using a book-style design that opens to reveal a large 7.6-inch display while retaining a smaller screen for use when the phone is closed. When closed, the device has a 5.4-inch outer display, and both displays support ProMotion with refresh rates of up to 120Hz. The phone uses a titanium structure reinforced with ceramic fibers and second-generation Ceramic Shield protection, along with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. It's powered by Apple's A20 Pro chip, built on a 2-nanometer process.
The launch changes the tone of the conversation heading into next year's flagship cycle — even though the Galaxy S27 Ultra, expected in early 2027, isn't a folding phone and won't compete with the Duo directly.
"The S27 Ultra and the iPhone Duo aren't really solving the same problem," experts said. "One is Apple's first attempt at a foldable, priced like it. The other is Samsung refining a slab flagship formula it's had years to get right. But when Apple pushes this hard on genuine hardware innovation, it raises the bar for what a flagship is supposed to feel like — and that's pressure Samsung has to respond to, even in a different category."
What's Already Rumored for the Galaxy S27 Ultra
According to current leaks, several upgrades already point in the right direction:
A next-generation OLED display using Samsung's new M16 material set, with the premium M16 E7 variant said to have a light transmittance of around 30%, helping to increase screen brightness while maintaining energy efficiency.
A redesigned camera module: Samsung has been rumored to remove the 3x telephoto camera from the Galaxy S27 Ultra, with the 5x periscope zoom camera said to offer better image quality and improved stability.
A larger battery: rumors point to a 5,700 mAh capacity netzwelt
Faster charging: reports suggest 60-watt wired fast charging and 25-watt wireless charging via Qi2 netzwelt
None of this has been confirmed by Samsung, and Fone4U is cautious about treating leaks as fact this far ahead of launch.
Fone4U's Advice for Shoppers Right Now
For customers who want a foldable phone today, the Duo is already available, while the Galaxy S27 Ultra remains over a year away. For anyone who simply wants the best non-folding flagship, Fone4U points to the current Galaxy S24 Ultra, S25 Ultra, and S26 Ultra as strong, considerably more affordable options available immediately.
"If you need a phone now, waiting over a year for a device that's still mostly rumor doesn't make sense," the spokesperson added. "Trading in your current phone for a premium refurbished flagship gets you real upgrades today, not a promise for 2027."
